  New ownership has changed the name from Village Shires Deli to Market at Village Shires, but in truth what this former staple of the Village Shires neighborhoods in Holland, PA., is, is a sandwich shop that does breakfast and lunch fairly well, but still falls short of what it was in yesteryear. Dietz & Watson has replaced Boar's Head provisions. Everything is geared around the accessorizing the main part of the meal - drinks, chips, snacks and lottery tix.  A true market it is not.
  
  Yet, if you can handle reduced expectations, The Market does produce a decent sandwich.  My chicken salad on rye, with a side bag of jalapeno chips came to eight bucks and small change.  The chicken salad appeared to be fresh and made by hand.  The rye came off a large sliced and bagged loaf.  It was a bit smaller than I have usually encountered, but still had good taste.  The banana peppers and lettuce requested provided a nice bite and watery crunch.  
  
  Service was fine, if not overly friendly, nor inspired.  Business was slow compared to my recollection of back in the day when I lived nearby in the Hamlet neighborhood. There are far better sandwiches to be found in the area, if not Village Shires (see, La Stalla on Sycamore Street, Newtown and Palantes Italian Deli in Richboro, for example). But, if you find yourself hungry in the vicinity, you could do worse.

  I remember this place as Village Shires Deli, which boasted well stocked shelves, fresh, quality meats, good rolls, and an assortment of toys and other items for families.
  
  Now it's strangely empty, with nary the bare essentials of items lining the shelves.  Even the soda/drink selection was despondent.  No hellos when entering, a strange display for tobacco, and the deli seemed to be the cheapest quality possible.
  
  The only positives are the fond memories, the ample parking, and the relatively scenic area.

  What happened to this place? Was away for awhile and now back in the neighborhood. New owners? Boars Head and most of the food is gone (what's left on the shelves is ridiculously overpriced) and there is a big section with head shop items. Maybe that is their focus now.

  Excellent deli with dietz &watson meats abd cheeses. Good hoagies, hot grilled foods and sandwiches at reasonable prices.
